Twin Homebirth Video

Have I posted this before? If I have, watch it anyway! This is a great birth - makes me cry each time I watch this. Hopefully Arizona mamas will someday have the option to have legal midwife-assisted twin homebirths (at present, midwives can't attend homebirths of multiples, VBAC or breech in the state of Arizona). Enjoy!

  2. I agree. I just moved to AZ at the end of last year. Women should have the option to birth at home with twins/whatever if they choose to. How do we give them this option? By removing mandatory licensure of midwives, so it isn't a crime for a woman to give birth with whomever she chooses.
    Great post :-)

  3. Diana, do you know what states nearby AZ allow twin or breech births?

  4. Hi, Stephanie! Firstly, there are some possible options for twin/breech at home in AZ - that is, you would just need to find an MD, an ND, or a CNM to attend. There are three NDs who attend home births in AZ (don't know of any MDs) as well as a few CNMs, so those would be good options - ditto for breech. Also, they are working on changing the laws - so twins and frank breeches (and VBAC) will hopefully be a legal option for CPM-attended births in the foreseeable future. We'll see! As for other states, I can't find a listing by state. I'm guessing you'd have to contact each state's midwifery association to find out. However, I am pretty sure that twins/breech are legal in California, if that's any help - and I'm pretty sure they're legal in New Mexico as well. Good luck!!

Here is one thread that might have some info:

  5. Another ND who truly certifies all ND Midwives - Dr Ferra Swan, over 30 years as ND and Midwife.

  6. NDMOM - Yes, definitely! She was one of the three NDs that I mentioned, and whom I should have named - Ferra Swan, Krystal Tellier, and Anne-Marie Palzer. I have heard great things about all of them! Thanks for chiming in! :)

  7. Any luck with the laws? Im expecting twins and i feel i have every right to CHOICE my healthcare provider a midwife like i want!! However the midwife practice i was seen at kicked me out since im having twins! I think the laws and probably education have a lot to do with it!

  8. Hi, Celeste! No, no luck with the laws. The laws have been changed, but twins were not added. Additionally, a whole bunch of really awful things are being added to the midwifery laws that are going to make it difficult for regular families to have singleton homebirths, let alone twins. For more info, join the Facebook group "Rights for Homebirth." You still have the option of doing twins at home with an ND (there are 3 or 4 out there who do HB) or a homebirth-practicing CNM - there are several out there (Diane Bajus comes to mind). Good luck, and let me know how it goes!! CONGRATS on the twins!!
